It’s week 3 of the Sew ‘n Style series!! Are you getting excited to see what our bloggers have come up with?! I am and we’re only one week away!! This has been so fun and I can’t wait to show you the little mini collection I put together for my daughters wardrobe
Without further ado…let talk about planning your pieces:
Hi, there it’s Melissa from Rebel & Malice Let’s talk pieces! Pieces of cake? Pieces of candy? Well, we can have that too, but today we are discussing planning your pieces in your collection.
The importance of this collection is that it goes together. This is one of the Project Runway moments when you need to make it come together. It can be a small detail like color, texture, shape, but it needs to look like it all goes, as well as be strong enough on their own.
Whoa? What, we are not fashion designers, we just wanted to sew. Ok, ok, don’t worry. But the goal of this project is to make it come together. So when you are making your collection, you need to figure out how many pieces you want to make. Separates become really important in this. Layers, accessories, and tops & bottoms. The pieces should work together and be interchangeable. If you have a big statement piece, make it something like a dress or coat. Or make sure to balance it out with something simple.
My collection is going something like this:
This gives me a total of 10 pieces, and the accessories are more of my fun pieces that pull the collection together while adding the whimsy of making a child’s collection.
My full piece (the dress, romper, pantsuit) can be worn alone, or layered with one of the 2 outerwear pieces making 3 outfits. Add the accessories, and we have 3 more options.
There are 2 tops that can be paired with the bottom, making 2 outfits, then adding the outerwear, 2 more options each making 6 outfits. Add in the accessories and there are even more possibilities. We have 9 outfit possibilities before adding in the accessories. When you add in the accessories, you get an additional 3 options per outfit. That makes a total of 36 possible outfits. That is pretty crazy, right?!
I included this pin to show you some possibilities in person. It is pretty crazy how many combinations you can make from a collection that is thought out to blend and compliment each piece. Click on the image to be directed.
What are you plans on pieces? Is there a focus, or one big piece you want to compliment? I’m excited to hear what you have planned!
